If old rusty pliers are lying around in your workshop, do not rush to throw them away. After a little refinement, they will turn out to be a very useful tool for manual bending of sheet steel. This homemade product is useful in the home workshop in the manufacture of various products from galvanization or tin.
First of all, we clean the pliers from rust and dirt. The surface can be cleaned manually with an emery cloth or grinder (in the second case it will be faster and better). Two trapezoidal plates are suitable as clamping jaws for bending sheet metal. They need to make a rectangular slot under the lips of the pliers.

At the next stage, you need to weld the plates to the lips of the pliers, putting three more plates between them and fixing everything with bolts and nuts. After welding, we remove the central plate, and fasten the remaining two to the clamping jaws with screws, having previously cut a suitable thread in the holes.
Then we clean the places of welding with a grinder. If desired, the tool can be painted to protect against corrosion. For convenience, you can put a heat shrink tube on the handles.
