The original petrol lighter made of copper and brass is a great birthday present (or for another reason) to a friend, as well as just a cool DIY craft that is very easy to assemble from inexpensive materials.

To make your own original gasoline lighter, we will use copper and brass parts. Also, for the manufacture of this craft you will need the "insides" from Zippo: cotton wool, wick, spring, flint, a chair with a rivet and felt pad.

The native bolt for the silicon spring can be thrown away - it will not work for this homemade product. Instead, we will use a small brass screw, the end of which must be sharpened a little to fit the spring. Then we proceed to the manufacture of other elements of the lighter.

The main stages of work

Using a metal hacksaw, in a piece of brass hexagon, we make a small groove under the chair, and then we drill a through hole inside the bar. At the bottom we cut the thread. Then we process the workpiece on a belt grinder or file.

At the next stage, we make the lighter body. To do this, cut a piece of copper pipe of the desired size. You will also need a cap that will be worn on the bottom of the case. The rivet is a copper rivet.

On the side of the case we weld a six-sided brass bar, and a home-made “eye” for the wick to the top cover. From a brass nut we make a cap that will be screwed onto the "eye". Then we establish a chair and other small elements.

The detailed manufacturing process of the original copper and brass gasoline lighters can be seen in the video on the website.
