A home-made soft start made from an old iron allows you to lower the speed of the grinder and, in fact, is a budget alternative to the dimmer.
Soft start can come in handy when cutting plastic or plexiglass. Metal at such speeds cannot be cut.
Instead of an iron, you can also use an electric stove (of course, also an old one, with a power of 1 kW).
Additionally, you will need a piece of wire with a plug and an external outlet. If there is a plug on the iron itself, then you do not need a wire.
The main stages of work
To make a soft start for angle grinders, you just need to connect the old iron or electric stove in series with the grinder. You can see the diagram below.
On the wire that comes from the iron, you need to remove about 4-5 cm of insulation and cut one wire. If there is a yellow-green wire, you do not need to touch it - this is grounding.
If the wire is from an iron without a plug, then one end must be connected to a wire that has a plug. The two remaining wires are connected to the outlet.
After that, we collect the socket, and the soft start for the grinder is ready. We connect the angle grinder to the outlet, and you can easily cut plexiglass or plastic. At low speeds it is much more convenient.
