In this review, the master makes a small ax with a handle made of polyester resin. As the main material for the manufacture of an ax, a circular saw blade is used.
Such a hatchet is useful both in the kitchen, and on hikes or on vacation outside the city.
First of all, the author draws a sketch of an ax on paper. Then he cuts out the template and glues it to the saw blade.
Further, armed with a grinder and a drill, the master cuts the workpiece.
We process it on a grinding machine, and then manually - using metal files.
The main stages of work
At the next stage, the author performs a rough sharpening of the blade, then heats it with a gas spray with a burner, and tempers it in oil.
It will be necessary to drill three holes in the handle of the ax. And then the author proceeds to the final sharpening of the blade.
From pieces of board or plywood you need to put together a mold. We glue the inner sides with masking tape.
Then we mix the polyester resin with the catalyst and add the dye (in this case, red). Pour the resin into the mold, and wait until it hardens.
We disassemble the form, remove the workpiece and process it with a file. Then we draw the shape of the handle and cut two pads on the band saw. We drill holes.
At the last stage, glue the pads to the handle and fix with rivets. We process sandpaper, then polish.
