A simple wind generator can be made from several failed hard drives and a water pump from the washing machine. Alternative energy is closer than it seems, trash is now more than enough for the manufacture of such necessary gizmos. Such a design, of course, will not power your entire house with electricity, but it will do just fine to charge all kinds of USB gadgets.
Will need
- Pump from an automatic washing machine. It stands at the very bottom and serves to pump water from the drum into the sewer.
- Four hard drives can be from different manufacturers.
- Six - a long pipe for installing a wind turbine to a height.
- Bolts, nuts, washers.
- Wires.
A few words about the water pump
In the role of a generator that produces electricity, a water pump will be used. It consists of a movable rotor with permanent magnets and a movable stator with a U-shaped magnetic circuit and a coil on it.
The rotor is quite simply pulled out.
Thanks to the use of permanent magnets, such a pump works perfectly as a generator, capable of delivering up to 250 V. Of course, our wind turbine will not give such speed and the output voltage will be several times less.
Wind generator manufacturing
It was decided to fix the pump with steel construction corners, bending and cutting them as needed.
It turned out like this, a kind of clamp.
A hole was made in the pump magnetic circuit for a more secure fit.
Assembly assembly.
Wind turbine blades
We make blades from a PVC pipe.
We cut the pipe into three equal parts along.
And then we cut out our blade from each half.
In the places where the blades are attached to the generator, we make holes.
Blade fixing
To mount the blades of the wind generator, two disks from the HDD were used.
The hole in which perfectly matched the diameter of the impeller.
Mark up.
We drill.
Disks are attached to the rotor with bolts with washers and nuts.
We fasten the blades.
Swivel unit
So that the windmill, depending on the wind, can rotate in different directions, it must be installed on a rotary platform, in which the engine from the hard drive will be used, since there are very good bearings.
A disk will be put on it on which the generator will be mounted.
Under the mount, drill a hole and saw off the unnecessary part.
General assembly
We attach the corners in three places to the HDD engine that will be used as a turntable.
From cardboard or plastic, we cut the tail lobe so that the wind itself directs the fan.
Now we start assembling everything.
We take a pole and fix the wire for power.
We take a rotary knot.We insert into the pipe and tighten the nuts we part to the sides.
In principle, it is holding normally.
We fasten the nuts with bolts to the semicircular disk.
We dress everything on the spindle and fix it with a pad.
Next, we fix the node with the generator.
Tightening the nuts well.
We fasten the tail blade.
We connect the wires.
We insert the rotor with blades into the stator.
Test
With a small wind, the windmill produces about 10 V. It's a bit, but to charge USB gadgets it will work fine. The converter for this, I think, will not be difficult to assemble.
